Bri joked to the passerby with his phone out, ready to take a photo of the two women in the December waters. 

His dog, on the other hand, joined us without hesitation, meeting us in the shallow water as we walked up to the shoreline several minutes later. 

In spite of my fondness for Type-Two Fun, purposely going into cold water hadn't yet come to the top of my list of things to try. That all changed after a fun New Year's Day event and a text later that year.

"Wanna go in the lake before (school) pickup?" 

"Yeah."

The curiosity of my experience-seeking side had won, and suddenly I wanted to be the mom that cold plunges before preschool pickup.
